When do I need to register an installation with FENSA?
You must register an installation with FENSA within 21 days of the installation being completed. This allows FENSA to notify the relevant Local Authority within the required statutory timeframe.
What does FENSA consider an installation to be “complete”?
An installation should only be considered complete when all work is finished and the installation is fully compliant with all relevant Building Regulations.
This includes:
All windows/doors fully installed
Any required finishing works completed (e.g. rendering, sealing, making good)
No outstanding defects or snagging issues
If any work remains outstanding, the installation is not yet complete.
Can I register the installation if snagging or follow-on works are still outstanding?
No. You should not register an installation with FENSA if:
Snagging items remain
Rendering, making good, or other related works are outstanding
The installation is not yet fully complete
You must wait until all works are completed before registering.
Why is it important not to register too early?
When you register an installation with FENSA, you are making a legal declaration that:
The installation is complete
The work complies with all relevant Building Regulations
Registering an installation before completion may result in non-compliance and could place your FENSA registration at risk.
What happens if I don’t register within 21 days?
Failure to register within 21 days of completion may result in:
Delays or issues with Local Authority notification
Potential compliance action from FENSA
To avoid this, ensure installations are only registered once fully complete, and within the required timeframe.
